Having a good smartphone packed with features is great, but if the mobile device doesn’t have the hardware specifications to adequately support them, then you’re going to find yourself with something that is slow and not very convenient or enjoyable to use. To address the storage capacity needs, Samsung has announced two embedded modules, the 32GB microSD and the 64GB moviNAND flash memory modules. In a press statement earlier today, Dong-Soo Jun, EVP memory marketing, Samsung Electronics, referred to the new storage capacity of the new modules as bringing “the storage capacity levels of computing systems to small, mobile devices”. It’s believed that the need for high capacity NAND flash memory modules will grow in the coming years with iSuppli predicting that demand for 32GB and higher storage capacity modules being as great as 530 million units in 2010 with this number increasing to 9.5 billion by 2013. Although the 32GB microSD cards are being used in limited volumes by OEMs, mass production of these units is not expected until until next month. On the other hand, the 64GB moviNAND went into mass production in December 2009.
